Molobyen – A new district in Bodø
Molobyen, located in Bodø, Norway, is undergoing a dynamic transformation. A former industrial site will be developed into a vibrant urban neighborhood, complete with housing, a lively harbor district, retail, and cultural venues. Community participation and co-creation are fundamental to this evolution. My contribution to this development was early strategic planning and place identity.
This previously closed-off area, mostly inaccessible to city residents is exposed to harsh coastal weather. Molobyen's name is inspired by the protecting pier at site, and symbolizes the essence of this emerging district's unique identity. The name translates as 'pier city'. By initiating new life step by step, old buildings are reactivated for temporary use. Through collaboration with diverse stakeholders, embracing external initiatives, and experimenting with temporary installations, Molobyen is today starting to shape. This work was undertaken on commission for Hundholmen Byutvikling, in collaboration with Lemon EVE.
